Pray continuously, as a regular way of life. It is the only way to control and overcome the ignorance and evil of the flesh that is so pervasive within us all. And the flesh MUST be overcome. It is our most pressing problem: far more pressing than our daily food, our daily livelihood, our attendance at the meetings, our "work" for the Truth and the Brotherhood. All these are necessary, but overcoming the flesh is vital. And only a continuous life of prayer, habitually developed by long effort, can do it. Christ could "of himself do nothing," and certainly neither can we. The Word and Prayer are the great channels of power. Keep them clear and open and freely flowing at all times. Any stoppage is like a stopped artery: mortification begins immediately. The Word and Prayer are the life-blood and the circulatory system of the spiritual Body, and -- as in the natural, so in the spiritual -- "the Life is in the Blood." The need is continuous: five minutes without blood can kill the brain.
