Perhaps the peace of God does not appeal to you as worth seeking before everything else in life. It may seem a rather dull and monotonous prospect to those still in the toy-and-games stage. A baby enjoys movement -- any movement -- and cries when the movement stops. He has no capacity for meditation, or spiritual enjoyment. If you are still in this stage, remember that "movement" takes many forms. Most of us progress beyond the craving for the pleasure of being jiggled on someone's knee. But have we gotten very FAR from that stage? An intelligent child soon learns that there are other more mature and more satisfying pleasures, and will spend hours on the boring chore of learning the rudiments of playing a musical instrument, for the pleasure it perceives or senses in the ultimate accomplishment. Laboring toward the perfect peace of God is the greatest pleasure and most significant "movement" possible to man |
